Fragment #8: Political Speech

The Journey of the Filipino Meal

Faith is not just our devotion to God or Allah or Reason.
Faith is the grain that is harvested at the price of blood and sweat.
Faith is the chaff that is separated, the sacrifice made for the people.
Faith is the rice that we come have with our salted fish and fresh caviar.
Faith is the nourishment that binds a country and keeps it healthy.

In these decades, many people have lost faith in the country, in the government.
Honest people refuse to run for office because faith has wavered.
And dutiful citizens refuse to vote because honest people refuse to run for office.
Because faith has wavered, besieged by popularity contests and poisonous cynicism.
With faith comes trust, and trust is a two-way road.
The cycle must come to an end, for it has become a spiral of shackles.

Have trust in each other, have trust in your country.
Renew the faith that has sustained our Republic in her passionate history.
